Delightfully dog friendly coffee shops

make mine a puppuccino, please!

dog friendly coffee shops

We can’t say no to a hearty dog walk followed by coffee, cake or even brunch in one of the UK’s dog friendly coffee shops. It’s one of life’s little pleasures. Luckily, more and more establishments are recognising that four-legged friends form an integral part of our families. It’s no longer unusual to see a dog snoozing in the corner while their paw-rents dine, or sitting waiting patiently for their puppuccino to arrive. Here are some of our favourite dog friendly coffee shops that roll out the red carpet for doggy diners. Why not sniff out somewhere new?

Toast

Toast Worcester

Nestled in the pretty village of Flyford Flavell on the outskirts of Worcester, you’ll find one of our dog friendly favourites, TOAST. Dogs are welcome both inside and out – there are heaters and blankets to keep you warm during the colder months if you and your pooch would prefer the fresh air. Keep an eye out for Oscar, TOAST’s top dog, looking very smart in one of his many bow ties. And don’t forget to order your canine companion their very own puppaccino!

Make a day of it … TOAST is located on the Wychavon Way, a 40 mile walk through the Worcestershire countryside. It begins in the town of Droitwich Spa and ends in Broadway, taking in rolling hills, valleys, rivers, meadows, forests and farmlands along the way.

Make a weekend of it … Four-legged friends will love being part of the fun at Well Furlong Shepherd’s Retreat. More like a boutique holiday cottage as opposed to a simple shepherd’s hut, it offers 50 square metres of luxury living in the midst of the dreamy Cotswold countryside.

Jaunty Goat

dog friendly coffee shops

Combining great coffee, amazing food and a fabulous opportunity for people watching (if you manage to grab one of the much coveted window seats), it’s no wonder that Jaunty Goat is one of our favourite places to sip and dine in Chester. We’re head over paws for the cool Scandinavian design complemented by exposed Roman brickwork and beautiful greenery. It’s thoroughly dog friendly too with water bowls and treats for accompanying four-legged friends.

Make a day of it … Enjoy a stroll along the River Dee. Head over the suspension bridge and walk down the south side of the River Dee to the Meadows, popular with wildlife lovers and dog walkers. If you’ve picked up coffee and cake to go from Jaunty Goat, this is the prettiest spot to sit and enjoy them.

Make a weekend of it … Ranked as the best dog friendly hotel in Cheshire, a wonderfully stylish break with your four-legged friend is guaranteed at Moxy Chester. With chic rooms, vibrant social spaces, and a 24-hour food and beverage service, even the most discerning of dogs will have a tail-waggingly good time.

Bean & Bread

Bean & Bread

Light, airy and wonderfully dog friendly, Bean & Bread is the perfect place to kick back with a with a cup of coffee and enjoy an amazing brunch. If it’s a sunny day, take a seat outside in the sun and sit back and sip your beetroot latte (yes, it’s a real thing and it’s divine) while watching the world go by. What to order? We recommend the Reuben toastie. With a side of homemade doggy treats, of course.

Make a day of it … The iconic peak of the Sugar Loaf watches over the market town of Abergavenny and offers amazing views towards mid Wales in one direction and South West England in another. We highly recommend a stop off at Sugar Loaf Vineyard after your walk. Drop in for a tasting of some award-winning Welsh wines or choose from one of their many homemade cakes.

Make a weekend of it … You’ll find The Rapids Cottage not too far away nestled in the most magical spot. Located deep within the ancient woodlands of the Symonds Yat Valley, The Rapids Cottage offers dog walks from the doorstep. Should you simply prefer to hunker down during your stay and not head too far from your idyllic retreat, your four-legged friend is still assured of plenty to see and sniff simply by ambling along the local footpaths and venturing down to the riverside.

Wayland’s Yard

Wayland's Yard Birmingham

Birmingham or Worcester, both Wayland’s Yard dog friendly coffee shops are popular with dog owners but the outdoor space at the Worcester shop is our favourite place to hang out. It’s rare not to see a dog or two enjoying the stylish surroundings while their paw-rents sip on a flat white and enjoy a fry up or an insanely tasty fried chicken crumpet. Our top tip? Add a rasher of bacon to your order for your pampered pooch.

Espresso Barn

Espresso Barn Long Marston

It was love at flat white when we first spotted Espresso Barn, an independent coffee shop based at Barn Antiques in Long Marsten on the outskirts of Stratford-Upon-Avon. Not only can you be assured of a warm dog friendly welcome at this gorgeously decorated establishment, but thoroughly delicious food and drinks. For four-legged friends, you’ll find dog biscuits and a water bowl. If your pup prefers to people watch out in the fresh air, there’s a lovely courtyard with tables and chairs.

Make a day of it … A hop and a skip from the Cotswolds ANOB, a trip to Espresso Barn means you’re a short drive away from some of the country’s most beautiful dog walks. Broadway Tower is a folly atop Broadway Hill in Worcestershire, and the second-highest point of the Cotswolds. It’s set within a 50 acre estate of parkland and makes for a brilliant day out with your dog.

Make a weekend of it … Dogs are offered the same warm welcome as their owners at The Lygon Arms in Broadway. Two furry friends can join you for a small fee of £25 per dog per night, which includes a comfy dog bed, food and water bowls. There are some lovely packages to make your canine companion’s stay super special. Trust us, you’ll have a paw-fect time.

Teacup Tearoom

Teacup Tearoom Mevagissey Cornwall

Tucked away on the seriously cute Church Street in Mevagissey, you’ll find the multi award-winning Teacup Tearoom – it’s won two awards for being the most dog friendly business in Cornwall. Dogs can cosy on up in the comfy dog beds while you sip on your tea. There’s blankets for them too, and towels on wet days. They’re not forgotten about when it comes to treats either. Pick up a couple of grain-free tidbits for them while you’re browsing the cakes.

Make a day of it … A short drive away, you’ll find two beautiful gardens to visit – the Lost Gardens of Heligan and The Eden Project. The Lost Gardens offer a perfect walk for playful pups with miles of pathways and trails to look around. While dogs are not allowed in to the Biomes, the contemporary outdoor gardens at the Eden Project are definitely worth taking the time to explore.

Make a weekend of it … The Barn in Lanhydrock is the kind of space you immediately settle into and feel at home. Once part of the Lanhydrock Estate set on the edge of Bodmin Moor, this fantastic property is designed with comfort in mind, and is packed with modern features that lend a real sense of luxury while still retaining its original character.

Alty Market

Alty Market

We love Alty Market. With regular stalls offering everything from locally produced cheese to designer tableware, themed days and weekends, and live music providing an upbeat soundtrack to your shopping every Saturday and Sunday, it’s simply a great place to hang out. But our favourite place to take our pups has to be the Market House. It’s the centrepiece of the market with specialist food outlets, great coffee and happy dogs clustered around communal tables.

Make a day of it … Three miles from Altrincham, you’ll find Dunham Massey. With over 300 acres of beautiful ancient parkland to explore, it’s ideal for walking off your Alty Market lunch. Dogs are allowed in the gardens and deer park if kept on a short lead. There’s also an area when they can pad along off lead too should your four-legged friend prefer a bit more freedom.
