Affectionately known as Abda’s after its travel-loving owner, this unique little coffee shop in Northwich offers a welcoming space and a slice of culture for the community – four-legged friends included – to relax in and enjoy. Friendly faces and colourful surroundings ensure every visitor leaves with a smile on their face.
Afterwards, Northwich’s picturesque streets and welcoming atmosphere are a haven for dog owners. Enjoy a scenic walk along the River Weaver or head to Carey Park for some woodland fun with your furry companion.
‘Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.’
But if your pup’s not a keen sea dog, the next best things is whiling away an hour or two next to the water with a lovely cup of tea and a delicious sweet treat, both of which you’ll find copious amounts of at The Boathouse Café Bar at Tattenhall Marina.
Afterwards, take your four-legged friend on a stroll through the Cheshire countryside along the Shropshire Union Canal towpath.

The charming city of Chester has many dog friendly coffee shops but the quietly cool Chalk Coffee is amongst our favourites. Located on the quaintly cobblestoned Watergate Street, home to some of the oldest buildings in Chester, it’s the place to pop into to escape the hustle and bustle and give your pooch a break from the flurry of enthusiastic shoppers.
Specialising in coffee, brunch and bakes, the menu is small but perfectly formed … much like DFD’s beagle, Lyra, who loves to visit when she’s in the city. Coffee choice is a personal thing but if you’re not sure which to opt for, you can’t go wrong with a flat white. Or go off-piste and try the guest coffee – we’ve only ever had good experiences.
A personal favourite of Dog Friendly Destinations’ joint Chief Barketing Officer, Milo, The Fishpool Inn is a true gastronomic delight for canine companions. Book a seat in the dog friendly dining area and your furry friend will be spoilt with attention as well as their very own specially-created dog menu from local supplier, Sir Woofchesters. Bark Burgers, anyone? Or perhaps your pup will be tempted by the Sniff & Snaffle Sausages?
Just want to stop by for a drink and a few dog treats? That’s perfectly okay too. With cosy nooks and roaring log fires, the dog friendly section is a lovely place to enjoy both a relaxed pub meal or casual drinks.

Serving delicious brunches, lunches, coffees, teas and cake, no matter what you’re in the mood for, you’ll find it at this welcoming spot a short walk from the centre of Chester. And with comfy seats and a cosy children’s corner, it’s a brilliant place for a bite to eat with two-legged little ones as well as four-legged friends.
Ginger Monkey 31 is a hop and a skip from the Shropshire Union Canal. For a lovely waterside dog walk, follow the towpath into nearby Christleton and back.
The Lambing Shed Farm Shop & Kitchen is set in over 400 acres of Cheshire farmland and welcomes four-legged guests and their owners to drink, dine, shop and enjoy the idyllic countryside views. Located on a family-run working farm, you can expect an emphasis on local, seasonal and even home-reared produce. Yes, the menu is divine.
The National Trust’s Tatton Park is a popular choice for a scenic dog walk after your visit, along with the smaller but very pretty, Marbury Country Park.

A hidden gem only in so much as this gorgeous little restaurant is tucked away up a semi-secret staircase on Chester’s famous Rows.
The multi award winning The Naughty Badger Bistro is far from undiscovered though and has quickly risen to become one of the city’s most popular places for brunch, lunch, a perfectly poured coffee or a glass of wine.
Not just catering to human tastes; the hospitality is extended to furry friends with paw print adorned cappuccinos and doggy treats.
Located in the heart of Cheshire, just 20 miles from Chester and Manchester, The Partridge in Stretton is the perfect place to stop for a bite to eat (or stay) if you’re visiting one of the county’s many beauty spots, attractions or events.
Wonderfully inviting, drop by and enjoy a three course meal in the relaxed dining area, a casual bite to eat in one of the much-coveted fireside seats, or a glass (or two) of your favourite tipple at the well-stocked bar.
Four-legged friends will love the doggy treats and the outdoor space for running around and stretching their legs. You can even choose to eat out on the terrace if your canine companion is happiest in the fresh air.
If you’re out and about in rural Cheshire with your best canine companion, a pit stop at the The Pheasant Inn is a must. Combining delicious, dog friendly dining with panoramic views across the county (and North Wales), it’s a dog lovers dream destination. Whether you choose to relax on the picturesque terrace or take a seat in one of the cosy dining areas or near the bar, we guarantee that your four-legged friend will receive a wonderfully warm welcome – and dog treats!
The Pheasant Inn is located midway along Cheshire’s Sandstone Trail; one of the most popular middle distance trails in the North West. You might not want to tackle the full length with your pup but the five mile Tarporley to Burwardsley section meanders very close to the pub. It’s a real gem of a walk with lots to see (and sniff).
A visit to this transformed Macclesfield movie theatre serving delicious food is a must. Once a popular cinema, the Picturedrome building dates back to 1911, and in homage to its history, vintage film clips frequently flicker across the back wall.
When you arrive, find yourself a seat at one of the communal tables and get comfy – or get to know your fellow diners, if you’re feeling social – while you decide which delicious-smelling eatery or bar is for you.
If your four-legged friend is content to indulge in a little bit of pup watching or a snooze perhaps, take your time and try a little bit of everything. But if the hustle and bustle proves too much for your canine companion, you can grab something yummy and go. A Tender Cow burger is always a winner!
