Located on the quaintly cobblestoned Watergate Street, home to some of the oldest buildings in Chester, it’s the place to pop into to escape the hustle and bustle and give your pooch a break from the flurry of enthusiastic shoppers.

Overview
Specialising in coffee, brunch and bakes, the menu is small but perfectly formed … much like DFD’s beagle, Lyra, who loves to visit when she’s in the city. Coffee choice is a personal thing but if you’re not sure which to opt for, you can’t go wrong with a flat white. Or go off-piste and try the guest coffee – we’ve only ever had good experiences. The staff are super helpful so do feel free to ask for their recommendations if you’re unsure.
While the window seats are popular – for both people and dog watching – the longer tables towards the back of Chalk Coffee potentially offer your pup more space to stretch out. The ambient lighting and chilled music may even lull them to sleep … after they’ve had a fuss from the dog-loving team, as well as a drink of water and a gravy bone.
While you might head in to Chalk with good intentions of resisting the pastries, we can’t lie, faced with their flaky delicious, we don’t hold out much hope for you. We dream about those pain au chocolats!

Parking
There are car parks in Chester city centre but we recommend parking at Chester Racecourse and walking into the city via the very beautiful Watergate Street.
The Area
With its beautiful architecture, unique history and welcoming atmosphere, Chester is not only loved by locals, it’s one of the UK’s most popular cities for a memorable day out or a short break. There’s so much to see and do within the city walls but if you want to avoid the busier spots, head over the suspension bridge and walk down the south side of the River Dee to the Meadows. It’s a touch more tranquil and very popular with wildlife lovers and dog walkers.
