Get ready for some of the most spectacular dog walks that you’ve ever experienced. Located on the outskirts of Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye, at the foot of Macleod’s Tables and overlooking Loch Dunvegan, a truly special adventure awaits you and your four-legged friends at Osdale Byre.

For dogs...

Three dogs are invited to join you at Osdale Byre for an additional fee of £10 per pooch per week.

On arrival, you’ll find a bed, bowls, towels and treats waiting for your pooch, as well as a tracking lead and a Mud Daddy dog wash.

Four-legged friends will adore the underfloor heating to warm their little paws … when they’re not snoozing next to the wood burner.

For humans...

Surrounded by breathtaking Highland scenery, this idyllic cottage is the perfect spot for a tranquil getaway.

The large floor-to-ceiling windows in the dining area means that meals will always be accompanied by stunning scenery to admire.

Overview

Originally built in the 1800s, Osdale Byre is positively bursting with charm. The hub of the home is the semi open plan kitchen, dining area and living room. It’s such a warm and welcoming space, and not just because of the underfloor heating.

Skye has some fabulous restaurants, but should you want to dine at the Byre, the country-style kitchen is such a sociable space (there’s a lovely corner bench to perch on to keep the chef of the group company) and a joy to cook in, with everything to hand to rustle up something delicious for the family. The dining table easily seats four and the large floor-to-ceiling windows mean that meals will always be accompanied by stunning scenery to admire.

The double-height living room is divine. With space for all the family on the comfy leather sofas and an inviting wood burner, it’s the perfect place to put your feet (or paws) up a with a good book or to watch your favourite show or film on the TV. Why not watch something filmed on the Isle of Skye?

Osalde Byre has two beautiful bedrooms, both of which can be configured as super kings or twins. The upstairs bedroom offers the best views but the one located downstairs has its very own ensuite shower room. Whichever you personally opt for, we can promise you cloud-like beds and the softest sheets. There’s also a separate shower room downstairs with a large walk-in shower.

While you can access the garden from the main living space, you might want to take dogs through the boot room so you can grab coats, leads and poop bags on your way. If you want to relax and sip your morning cuppa (or a glass of wine in the evening) while your four-legged friend stretches their legs, there are outdoor chairs for you to sit on.

Although they are at opposite ends of the grounds, Osdale Byre currently shares the same enclosed grounds as Osdale Farmhouse. However, both cottages have their own private areas to the rear.

For The Dogs

Four-legged friends are well-catered for at Osdale Byre. On arrival, you’ll find a bed, bowls, poop bags, towels and treats waiting for your pooch, as well as a tracking lead and a Mud Daddy dog wash.

While the cottage has a private back garden, the remainder of the outdoor space is shared with the Farmhouse at the other end of the grounds. Both the private garden and shared space is fenced off from surrounding farmland providing a secure area for dogs to roam off-lead.

Special Instructions

Dogs are welcome throughout the cottage but not on the beds or in the showers. There is stock proof fencing around the grounds which determined dogs may be able to sneak through if persistent.

The Area

There are remarkable walks right from the door when staying at Osdale Cottages, and a walk up to nearby Macleod’s Tables is a must. Visible from the cottage, these two flat-topped hills proudly overlook the Duirinish Peninsula on Skye. A steep climb, the walk to the top is not for the Sunday stroller, but you’ll be rewarded with incredible views if you do tackle the ascent. Another favourite of Osdale Cottages’ owner, Lucy, and her pooch Ned, is the Dunvegan Two Churches Walk. It’s a 3 km walk through woodland and open moor with some lovely views in the later sections. There are off-lead opportunities too for dogs who like to stretch their legs a little more.
