Good to know

Overview

Glenridding Dodd is a modest but charming fell in the Lake District, standing at 442 metres (1,450 feet). It may not have the height of some of the more famous Wainwrights, but it provides a short and extremely rewarding hiking experience with some of the best views in the eastern fells. Despite its relatively low elevation, you can see right across Ullswater, even on a cloudy day.

Located near the village of Glenridding, the area is renowned for its stunning scenery and serves as a gateway to some of the more famous peaks in the Lake District, such as Helvellyn. The round trip from Glenridding village to the summit of Glenridding Dodd and back is approximately 3-4 miles (5-6 km).

The walk is of moderate difficulty, with a steep ascent right to the summit, but perfectly doable for enthusiastic pups. It’s perfect for those seeking a shorter, less crowded trail while still experiencing the stunning beauty of the Lake District. However, adventurous hikers and dogs might want to extend the walk to bag additional Wainwrights, such as Sheffield Pike.

For The Dogs

The Area

For a different Lakeland experience, enjoy a trip on one of the dog friendly Ullswater Steamers to take in the views from a more unusual perspective. Board at Howtown and disembark at Glenridding, located at the foot of the Helvellyn range, to enjoy a stunning six mile ramble along the shore back to the start. Dogs travel for £1. Alternatively, catch the shuttle from Glenridding to Aira Force, which is without a doubt one of the most beautiful spots in the Lake District.
