Overview
Hallin Fell is situated on the eastern side of Ullswater, near the village of Howtown, making it easily accessible for visitors from Glenridding and Pooley Bridge. The fell stands at 388 meters (1,273 feet) above sea level. It’s a relatively low summit compared to some of the peaks in the Lake District, but despite its modest elevation, its position offers amazing views of the surrounding landscape.
There are several routes to the summit varying in length and difficulty to suit different preferences and abilities. The most popular route begins from St. Peter’s Church in Martindale, where there is a clearly marked footpath . Another option is to start from Howtown and ascend via Bonscale Pike. It’s a longer and more challenging walk but comes with additional panoramic views.
When reaching the summit, you’ll be able to see right across Ullswater, and even over the lake to Place Fell with glimpses of Helvellyn in the distance, on a clear day. Head just before sunset for the most incredible experience.
Howtown Tea Room a great place to pop after your walk. Choose from homemade cakes, sandwiches, soup and sausage rolls. It’s very dog friendly.
