Visit WebsiteEastham Country Park can often feel like an undiscovered gem. Spanning close to 100 acres, there’s a whole lot to explore and several trips are needed if you want to take it all in. With open fields for dogs to enjoy off lead as well as nature trails and woodland walks, there’s an abundance of places for your furry friend to investigate and a constant supply of squirrels to chase.
Overview
It’s popular with dog walkers in the mornings and evenings, and you’ll find lots of families exploring the woods during the day. If you’re planning on staying a while, pack a picnic. There are lots of picnic benches available on the grassland close to the river. As the park is located on the bank (Wirral side) of the River Mersey, you’ll be spoilt with spectacular views across the estuary, too.
Alternatively, pick something up from the The Mimosa Tea Garden. It’s open between 10.30am and 5.30pm in spring and summer for drinks, snacks and ice creams and has outdoor seating if your legs (or paws) need a rest.
Don’t forget to stop by the visitor centre. It’s dog friendly and has a lovely little bird hide to look out from. If we had to pick a favourite time to visit, we’d recommend that you go during May or June when the woods come alive with thousands of little bluebells swaying in the breeze.
For The Dogs
Bring leads, poop bags and water.

For more rural walks, head to nearby Wirral Country Park or Royden Park. Both are incredibly scenic and hugely popular with locals and visitors alike. Within Wirral Country Park, there’s also the Wirral Way. It’s a pathway on an old railway track that runs from West Kirby to Hooton. It offers superb views over the Dee Estuary to North Wales. Look out for the outline of Moel Famau in the Clwydian Hills, visible on a clear day. More of a beach babe? Head to West Kirby. We like the 1.5 mile amble to Red Rocks. Walk along the path that runs alongside Royal Liverpool Golf Club. There are dunes, marshes and views to admire along the way … and red rocks.
