Good to know

Overview

The trails at Delamere Forest are easy to follow, passing through shady trees, alongside meres and up to glorious viewpoints. If you’re visiting with children as well as four-legged friends, we recommend the Linmere trail. Follow the green markers through the forest and see if you can spy a Gruffalo in the deep dark wood. At 1.7 miles, it’s a gentle stroll for those whose little legs won’t carry them very far.

If you want to give your walking boots a bit more of a challenge, the Old Pale trail is for you. At just under two miles, it might not seem particularly arduous but trust us, the ascent is significant. However, it’s well worth it for the spectacular views over seven counties once you reach the top. You can even see over to Liverpool on a clear day. Paws will definitely need a rest at the café once you’ve made your way back down.

Feeling energetic? Perhaps pack a picnic and tackle both. You’ll find plenty of picnic benches dotted around the forest for you to use.

For The Dogs

You’ll find water bowls outside of the café. Pack leads, treats and poop bags … and a towel if you have a water-loving pooch.

Opening Hours

Please check the Delamere Forest website as opening hours vary throughout the year.

Parking

There are three car parks: at the main visitor centre, Treetops (close to the train station), and Whitefield, located off the B5152. Members park for free while visitors are charged – £6 for up to 2 hours/£10 for the day.

Special Instructions

Please keep dogs on a lead should you come across any livestock.

The Area

Cheshire is blessed when it comes to scenic walks. We love Whitegate Way, a six mile stretch along an disused railway track. Dogs will love the changing scenery as you venture along. Don’t leave the area without dining (or simply enjoying a drink) at the incredibly dog friendly The Fishpool Inn. Ask for a seat in the dog friendly dining area and your furry friend can choose from their very own specially-created dog menu.
