Visit WebsiteDon’t let the busy carpark fool you; spanning 80 acres, even in the peak of summer Bodnant Garden is an absolute joy to amble around without it ever seeming overcrowded. In fact, head there in the early morning or late afternoon, and it’s almost as if you have the place to yourself.
Overview
This world-famous garden is home to some of the oldest trees in the world and features an amazing combination of manicured lawns, intricate planting, gorgeous meadows and beautiful lakes, not forgetting the views of Snowdonia. Pick up a leaflet at the entrance; there’s a few hidden gems that you probably wouldn’t stumble across on your dog walk but you definitely don’t want to miss them.
If you’re local to North Wales or a keen visitor of the area, it’s worth popping back to Bodnant Garden through the seasons. It really is ever-changing, from the stunning Laburnum Arch in early spring to the crimson leaves in the autumn. In the summer, we’d recommend taking a picnic to nibble on after your walk. Sit on the lawn beside the grand house and watch the sun set. In good weather, trust us, you’d never want to be anywhere else.
Do check the Bodnant Garden website before you set off though as they sometimes have restrictions in place as to when dogs are allowed to visit. Currently, from 1st April – 30th September, dogs are welcome in the garden every Thursday to Sunday.
For The Dogs
Bring leads and poop bags. There are water bowls at the entrance to the café.
Opening Hours
Please check the National Trust website as opening times vary throughout the year.
Parking
Parking is available outside the entrance to the garden itself and is free for National Trust members.
Conwy Water Gardens is another great place to visit with your four-legged friend. It’s free to enter but do think about popping something in the donation box to go towards the upkeep of the lakes and gardens. Follow the nature trail through woodland, around ponds and even past gentle waterfalls. You’ll spot pheasants, ducks and the occasional otter or two. Yes, dogs must be kept on a lead. Post-walk, if you’re feeling a little peckish, pop to Cantîn. One of Conwy’s hidden gems, it’s a favourite of ours for a drink or a bite to eat when visiting this historic market town with our pooches.
