The welcoming interiors and idyllic location provide a stunning backdrop to your dog friendly stay in the heart of rural Somerset.

For dogs...

Owners of Mill Meadow, the Heayns family, love dogs. If you’d like to bring more than two dogs, do get in touch with them to discuss it.

Bowls, towels, throws and a treat or two will be waiting for four-legged friends to make them feel at home.

The Spinney, an area owned by The Woodland Trust, is a short walk away and a great place to exercise your dog off lead.

For humans...

Want to holiday with family or friends but still have your own holiday homes to retreat to? There are six further lodges at Mill Meadow.

Come rain or come shine, the hot tub is the ultimate haven to hang out in.

Enjoy your first cup of tea of the day – or evening gin and tonic – by the beautiful fishing lake. It’s such a tranquil spot to take a moment or two for yourself.

Good to know

Overview

Sleeping four to six humans and welcoming two dogs, Woodpecker Lodge is stylishly decorated and features everything you need for a relaxing self-catering staycation.

Downstairs is mostly open plan and is such a warm and welcoming space to hang out in. Put your feet up in front of the wood burner in the double height living room, cook up a storm in the fully equipped kitchen, and enjoy lively meals in the dining area … the double doors open out on to the terrace so you can easily dine outdoors on warmer days.

A king size bedroom and spacious family bathroom is also located on the ground floor – great if you have a nervous dog who doesn’t like to be separated from their pack.

Upstairs, there’s a double bedroom with a roomy ensuite bathroom, and a huge mezzanine floor with two double sofa beds and access to the large balcony.

Outside, Woodpecker Lodge has its own private garden area and decadent hot tub. Expect evening dips to become a daily event. Don’t leave this idyllic hideaway without taking some time out to sit by the tranquil fishing lake. It’s the nicest place to relax and unwind after a busy day spent exploring.

For The Dogs

On arrival, you’ll find dog bowls, towels and throws waiting for you. In addition, dog sitting and dog walking services are available should you need them; simply talk to the team in advance and let them know your requirements.

Dogs must be kept on their lead when outside of your lodge but The Spinney, an area owned and managed by The Woodland Trust, is a short walk away and a great place to exercise your dog off lead.

The Area

Woodpecker Lodge is located at the foot of the Quantock Hills, England’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, designated in 1956. The various routes make for wonderful dog walks with views of the Bristol Channel, Wales, the Mendip and Blackdown Hills, Exmoor and the Somerset Levels. Samuel Taylor Coleridge lived in the Quantocks for some time and took inspiration from their beauty for some of his finest poems.
