High Street, Abersoch, Gwynedd, LL53 7DS
Visit WebsiteThe Potted Lobster, located in the heart of Abersoch, offers fresh, locally sourced seafood in a wonderfully inviting atmosphere. It’s one of those places that’s just so nice that you can’t quite believe that you can take your dog. However, the staff are super welcoming when it comes to four-legged friends and a water bowl will be whisked to your table along with your incredibly tempting menus.
Overview
Booking is absolutely essentially at The Potted Lobster. Rightly so, as the food is incredible and the interiors are divine. Think maritime done well, with more than a sprinkling of a Hamptons-in-North-Wales vibe.
When it comes to ordering, try the beef tataki for starters. The combination of pickled shallot and wasabi purée gives a mild, tangy, refreshing kick to the delicate flavours of thinly sliced Welsh beef. If you’re looking for something to wash it down with, you can’t go wrong with a locally brewed ale from Cwrw Llyn.
From the mains menu, the moules and frites is a house favourite but the Llyn Peninsula lobster is heavenly. We requested a half lobster each; one portion grilled and the other served in brioche roll. The grilled lobster arrived with truffle mayo, fries, and salad. The other half arrived on a bed of thickly sliced brioche, lightly toasted with garlic butter, and served with pickled onions and crispy shallots. The lobster meat in both dishes was cooked to perfection – sweet, delicate, and juicy.
You might not have room for pudding after such a feast, but if it’s on the menu, order the jaffa cake trifle with honeycomb. Even if it’s to share, you won’t regret it and you can walk it off at the beach later. Paw-fection!
For The Dogs
There are a limited number of dog friendly tables indoors (ask for a booth, if there’s one available) but if the sun is shining, the terrace is most definitely the place to be. Water bowls are provided for thirsty pups.

Abersoch is a charming seaside resort nestled in the Llyn Peninsula in North Wales. Historically a fishing village, it’s now a popular destination for water sports such as sailing and paddle boarding and there are regular boat trips to nearby St Tudwal’s Islands (home to famous survivalist, Bear Grylls). Its proximity to Snowdonia National Park also adds to its attraction, with Snowdon itself visible from the beach on clear days.
