The original room bells still hang proudly in the hall, a lovely nod to the hotel’s rich history, while the thoughtfully updated bedrooms promise cosy beds, vibrant fabrics, flat screen TVs, and sparkling bathrooms.

After exploring the fells or enjoying a boat trip from Keswick, the cosy lounges beckon with roaring fires, afternoon teas, and light bites in the conservatory, where stunning views of the garden and surrounding fells create a peaceful backdrop.

With its perfect blend of tradition, comfort and a genuine love for four-legged friends and their owners, The Borrowdale Hotel promises a memorable Lake District escape for all. The hotel’s warm hospitality shines through every detail, from the friendly staff who know the very best local dog walks to the relaxed spaces that invite you to unwind after a day outdoors.

The Area

Borrowdale is a paradise for dogs and their walkers, with plenty of scenic trails just steps from the hotel. Start with a gentle riverside stroll via Grange, perfect for a post-breakfast stretch past sheep-dotted fields. Or, explore the peaceful paths of Lodore Falls and Manesty Woods, where dogs can sniff through the undergrowth with lake views all around. More adventurous? Try the short but steep Castle Crag climb for stunning views of Derwentwater below. And for the seasoned hikers, High Spy and Maiden Moor ridge offers wild open fell walks – just don’t forget your flask, boots and a well-trained dog. Off-lead spots like Great Wood and parts of Derwentwater’s lakeshore offer some freedom, but with sheep nearby, a lead is always a smart idea.
