Overview

A much-loved family home (you can read more about its history here), you’ll find Lowfield House tucked down a quiet country lane, surrounded by private fields and incredible panoramic views of Little Langdale Valley. Impressive from the outside and warm and inviting on the inside, you’ll feel both thoroughly spoilt and yet completely at home.

The house is a little quirky in terms of layout, with staircases leading off in different directions. It means that while there are multiple social spaces to gather together, you’re never far from a quiet, cosy corner. If you’re a family that likes to cook, there’s a fully fitted kitchen equipped with everything you need to prepare hearty breakfasts or evening feasts. Alternatively, The Three Shires Inn comes highly recommended and is just a short walk away from the house. Yes, it’s delightfully dog friendly too.

The dining/living room is located across the hallway from the kitchen. It has a wooden table that comfortably seats ten and a huge sofa that curves around the fire. There’s plenty of floor space for four-legged friends to join you. We particularly love the window seat in this room. It’s the perfect place for perching with a cup of tea while admiring the views. If you don’t want to miss out on your favourite show while away, you’ll find a smart TV in the family room. The snug is the room to seek if you want to curl up with a good book – when you spot the wallpaper, you’ll realise why.

The five ensuite bedrooms are made up of two super kings, one king size, and two twins with double-sized beds. The two bedrooms with Juliet balconies are particularly impressive.

Outside, the garden is an absolute haven. The large patio wraps around the house and there is a lovely lawned area too. You’ll definitely want to indulge in a dip in the hot tub and make use of the BBQ while your dogs explore the grounds – the three quarters of an acre has dog-proof perimeter fencing, so you know they’ll be safe.

For The Dogs

Four dogs are invited to join you at Lowfield House, potentially more if agreed in advance with the owners. You’ll find bowls, towels, treats, a toy and poop bags at the property but please bring your dog’s bed or blanket for sleeping on. There’s also an external warm water tap with a handheld shower for washing muddy paws.

Price

From £400 per night (£40 per person per night), with no additional charges for four-legged friends.

The Area

The Lake District is one of Britain’s most popular staycation destinations. And why wouldn’t it be? Fantastic pubs, lake cruises and limitless walking, all set against a spectacular backdrop of beautiful mountain scenery. However, despite the millions of visitors every year, it’s not hard to find peace and quiet in the Lakes. The owners of Lowfield House have put together a brilliant guide to local walks.
