2 Ruelle Richard Cœur de Lion, 19230 Ségur le Château, France
Visit WebsiteTucked away in the Auvézère Valley on the edge of the idyllic village of Ségur le Château in central France, you’ll find Les Figues. A medieval French house originally built for a noble barrister in the 14th century, this beautifully restored residence sleeps eight humans and welcomes two canine companions.
Two four-legged friends are welcome to accompany you on a trip to Les Figues for a fee of £20 per dog per week.
There are plenty of lovely walks in the area as well as dog friendly restaurants and tourist attractions nearby.
Local promenades and randonnées guides are available from the Office de Tourisme and contain lots of ideas for nearby dog walks.
Bookings are taken from Saturday to Saturday in high and peak seasons but short breaks are available during the remainder of the year.
We love the ground floor bedroom with its French doors that lead out on to the patio area and the private garden beyond.
The popular café/restaurant, Le P’ti Bar, is just a few steps away from Les Figues sitting on the village green and overlooking the Auvézère River.
Overview
This charming abode is arranged over three floors and features a wealth of original features, including beamed ceilings, beautiful stonework and open fires in both the living room and the kitchen. Yes, Les Figues is warm, welcoming and wonderfully appointed from top to bottom.
On the ground floor, you enter into the large kitchen/dining room. It’s a really social space with a large dining table and two armchairs in front of the fire. Pick up supplies from the village shop – it serves coffee, too. Alternatively, St. Yrieix, a fifteen minute drive away, has a well-stocked supermarché.
The living room is located next to the kitchen. With whitewashed walls and a seamless blend of modern and vintage furniture, it’s the perfect place to retreat to at the end of a busy day. Four-legged friends will love that it’s large enough to pad around before they inevitably end up snoozing in front of the wood burner.
A double bedroom with ensuite WC is also on the ground floor. It has a lovely small balcony to the side of the house, ideal for enjoying a quiet coffee in the morning before you join the rest of your group. Head up the winding stone staircase to the upper floor of Les Figues and you’ll find two further double bedrooms. They share a roomy bathroom which has both a bath and a shower.
The fourth bedroom is located on the lower ground level and is the one you want to opt for if you arrive at Les Figues ahead of the rest of your party. It has an ensuite shower room and French doors that lead out on to the patio area and the private garden beyond.
On the banks of the River L’Auvézère, the tranquil garden is filled with blossom trees and rose blooms. While the river is accessible from the garden, a fence ensures the space is secure for children and dogs.
