Priory Lane, Frensham, Surrey, GU10 3BT
Visit WebsiteFrensham Little Pond (and the nearby Great Pond too) was created in the 13th century to supply fish to the Bishop of Winchester during his visits to Farnham Castle some five miles away. Today, the pond and its surrounding area are a sanctuary for wildlife; there’s always something new to see as you walk around with your four-legged friend.
Overview
The Little Pond family trail, a 2.5 mile walk, is perfect for an hour or two in the fresh air. Enjoy the views over the lake and the hearty climb up to Snowball Ridge. From beautiful heathland to enchanting birdsong, there’s so much for canine explorers to see and listen out for … and a whole lot to sniff around too. Dogs must be on their leads while the birds are nesting from March through to September.
As you walk back down the hill, you’ll spot the welcoming sight of Tern Café. Treat yourself to a coffee and a slice of cake to rest tired paws for a while. Check out Frensham Great Pond if your furry friend isn’t quite ready to head home; dogs are welcome along the designated dog route but not on the manmade beach, unfortunately.
For The Dogs
Pack some small treats if they’re easily distracted by wildlife, and a towel to wipe their wet feet if they’re partial to a paddle.
Opening Hours
Daily: From dawn until dusk.
Parking
National Trust members park for free. Scan your membership card at the machine next to the café to obtain a ticket to display on your dashboard.
For something a little bit different, head to the nearby The Sculpture Park, located just a couple of miles away from Frensham. With winding woodland paths, and bridges and streams, it’s another wonderful place to explore. And relaxing too, as you’re surrounded by wildlife and running water while you try to spot the 650 sculptures displayed throughout the ten acres of arboretum and water gardens.
