Overview
The strangely shaped rock formations tower over heather moorland, offering panoramic views across Nidderdale and over to the Vale of York.
The whole area is managed by the National Trust and you can pick up a detailed map when you park to help you plan your visit. With dedicated ‘little legs’ and ‘longer legs’ walking routes, we love that Brimham Rocks is suitable for anyone and everyone.
Most of the rocks have been given rather unusual names – see if you can spot The Dancing Bear, The Eagle and The Gorilla, or crawl through The Smartie Tube and balance on The Rocking Stones.
For a more peaceful dog walk, we recommend turning right from the car park and exploring the labyrinth of paths across Brimham Moor. The ramble across the moor will take you to some of the quieter outlying rocks that don’t receive anywhere near as many visitors.
If you’re feeling more energetic, Brimham Rocks can be included on a beautiful 8 mile walk from Pateley Bridge, taking in part of the Nidderdale Way and back via the quiet banks of the River Nidd.
For The Dogs
Brimham Rocks is justifiably a popular spot, especially in summer, so try to head there midweek or later in the day to avoid the crowds. Dogs are requested to be on lead at all time due to ground nesting birds.

Parking
Parking at the Brimham Rocks car park (HG3 4DW) is free for National Trust members.
The Area
With rolling hills, rivers, ravines and reservoirs, there are plenty of dog friendly things to see and do in Nidderdale. Why not head for How Stean Gorge, don your hard hat and explore one of the finest natural features in the area? Wonder at this spectacular limestone ravine before retreating to How Stean Café. If you’re feeling brave, admire the gorge through the amazing reinforced glass floor. Otherwise sit back and enjoy the spectacular views with a Yorkshire slice or a scoop of their very own ice cream.
